A blended Japanese whisky from White Oak, made with 45% American oak matured single malt. We also understand that Meïsei translates roughly as ‘celebrity’ in Japanese.
The Glenrothes Sherry Cask Reserve was introduced to the Speyside distillery's core range in 2014, and it's definitely one for the Sherry lovers out there, as this is the first single malt from Glenrothes to be completely matured in first-fill Sherry casks.
Glenrothes Peated Cask Reserve was distilled in 1992 and finished in casks which formerly held Islay whisky. The result is a 20-year-old-plus whisky with notes of smoke, vanilla, citrus and spice.
The apples are mixed, crushed and pressed. The apple juice is fermented right out to give cider to be distilled. Double distillation is carried out 6 months after the fermentation has taken place. The first distillation gives the "petite eau" at 30% by volume and it is the second distillation, that of the "petite eau" which gives the Calvados.
